About

The Run For The Island 5K 2016 is the 5th annual fundraising event to benefit God’s Ministry in LaGonave, Inc.  This special ministry, founded in 2010, serves the physical and spiritual needs of the residents in the village of Belle-Vie on the island of LaGonave, Haiti.  Previous year’s events raised enough money to construct a 5 room school for over 200 children, a large cistern for clean drinking water, and a beautiful church for worship.   In the spring of 2014, a team including Church Members from Gateway Christian Church, constructed the new Church for the Belle Vie community.
This year hopes to complete finishing touches to the School as well as build funds for the maintenance of the programs including the school, feeding program and church.  The residents are very grateful for your generosity!
Please join us for a great cause and a morning of fun!

History of the Fun Run

Sharon and I wanted to have a fund raiser to support our niece, Laura, and her life’s mission in Haiti.  This site was created to promote the  Run and give visitors some background on Laura’s work in Haiti and her charity, God’s Ministry in La Gonave.

We held the First Annual Run during the summer of 2012 in Creve Coeur and it was a fantastic success with over 100 runners and over $20,000 raised.

Sharon and I have married for 18 years and have two wonderful kids, Jake (class of 2017 at  Chaminade) and Anna (class of 2015 at Ursuline.)  I’m from a big family from St. Ferdinand parish in Florissant, MO and Sharon grew up in Ste. Genevieve. We currently belong to Our Lady of the Pillar Catholic Church in Creve Coeur.

I have the pleasure of working at World Wide Technology and the hundreds of fantastic people who work there.  Jim Kavanaugh and Dave Steward have already been quite generous in support of Laura and we’re deeply grateful for that.

  1. Hello my name is Kelly Hill and I am assisting in the organizing the Slim’s Journey 5k in Warrenton on September 24th. Our run is to help raise awareness about Friedreichs Ataxia. This disease is an autosomal recessive inherited disease that causes progressive damage to the nervous system. It manifests in initial symptoms of poor coordination such as gait disturbance; it can also lead to scoliosis, heart disease and diabetes. I was wondering if we could put our event information in to your participant’s bags or hand them out the day of your run. Anything you could do to help promote our event would be appreciated. Together we can make a difference. With your help we will make an impact and raise the funds needed to continue this time sensitive life saving research. – See more at: http://fara.convio.net/site/TR?fr_id=1281&pg=entry#sthash.FHFXlOJl.dpuf

    Thanks.
    Kelly
